In the first official NFL championship game, the Giants played the Bears at Chicago's Wrigley Field in front of 26,000 fans.
In a true NFL chess match, the Bears Jack Manders opened the scoring with a 16 yard FG. Manders then kicked a 28 yarder to put the Bears up 6-0 in the second quarter.
The Giants Newman (who finished 12 of 17 for 201 yards and 2 TD's) answered with a TD strike to Red Badgro, with Ken Strong's kick put the Giants up 6-7 at the half.
In the third quarter, Manders hit a 15 yard FG putting the Bears up again 9-7 before the Giants Max Krause one yard TD and Strong's kick changed the lead again in the Giants favor 9-14.
The Bears QB Bronco Nagurski hit Bill Karr for a TD with Manders kick changed the lead back at 16-14.
In the final quarter Giants returned the score in a trick play when Strong lateraled to Newman who then threw a TD pass to Strong who also converted the PAT for a 16-21 lead late in the game.
With less than one minute to go, the Giants defense could not hold on, and allowed Nagurski's 13 yard pass to Bill Hewitt who then lateraled to Karr for a 19 yard game winning TD with Brumbaugh's PAT finished the game.
Final: Bears 23 - Giants 21.
